Project 4 - Power in Community

In this project, our team designed a solution for our client, Alanna, to make her daily living better. We did this by first determining the design requirements (i.e. function, constraints, and objectives) through problem framing and design exploration. We then developed an initial prototype that was centred on user interaction. After this, we had 2 design reviews where we were able to receive feedback on our prototypes and iterate our design. Along with this, we developed a testing plan for our prototype. In the end, we used all of the skills we have learned thus far through this year to develop a final design that embodies every step of the design process.

Through this project we learned how to frame a design problem in terms of the needs of the client, objectives, constraints, functions and metrics. We also learned how to follow an interactive design process of ideas generation, prototyping, and testing. Furthermore, we had to learn how to communicate our design quickly and effectively to non-team members in order to receive feedback, and how to use that feedback. Finally, we learned how to write a professional engineering report describing the process and outcome of our design project to our client.
